So, I just finished HOC Season 3 two weeks ago and I have been mulling and mulling. I was not as pleased as I was at the end of season 2. Some of that may have been the tonal shift, some of it may have to do with the fact that I watched 13 hours of TV in 10 days, but I think it is because I really didn’t care about the people the show wanted me to care about.
The fact of the matter is that by the end of the season, Doug is the worst person on that show. His ending(which I won’t spoil) was unnecessary, disgusting and I would love to ask the writers why they did it because it doesn’t make me want to ever spend time with Doug again. I don’t feel sorry for him, I don’t understand his POV, I just want to punch him in the face. Although to be honest, I never really wanted to spend that much time with Doug in the first place. Doug is a great tertiary character but to make him the B plot of the show was such a drag.
Also they shot themselves in the foot with Frank as the president because Frank isn’t deliciously evil anymore. Frank was so great as an underdog. When he was fighting and clawing to the top, it was marvelous but now, he’s boring and whiny and extremely naive. I never understood how he expected people to follow him blindly when he has actual checks and balances that could hold him back.
I do wonder what they will do in Season 4. Will we still follow Frank and watch is downfall? Or will Claire step in the forefront and be our new Frank? Will I care?
TV has a way of disappointing you eventually and I think it’s House of Cards turn.
